Effects of Nuclear Weapons on Hiroshima and Nagasaki
On the mornings of August 6th and 9th, 1945 the United States unleashed nuclear hellfire on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan. The immediate effects are severe. Pressure waves caused from the explosion were enough to level office buildings, local businesses, and nearby schools. The heat near the hypocenter was extremely intense and caused fatal and non-fatal disfigurement to the citizens of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan. The harmful effects of nuclear weapons go far beyond the initial detonation and the following week. The compounds used in manufacturing nuclear weapons, cyanide, mercury, plutonium, and uranium, contaminate the soil and water and remain carcinogenic for hundreds of years. This requires either extensive clean-up of the affected area, or complete evacuation.
